George Latimer, the Democratic nominee for Westchester county executive, wants to know what went on at the county's Economic Development office in Midtown Manhattan.

Latimer, a state senator, is demanding County Executive Rob Astorino, a Republican who is running for a third term, disclose his public schedule. He speculated Astorino was using the office, which closed in May, at 125 Park Avenue to gear up for a run for governor in 2018. Astorino previously ran for governor in 2014, losing to Andrew Cuomo.

"We have the highest property taxes in the nation. It's shameful that Rob Astorino would spend Westchester families' hard-earned money to open a Park Avenue office suite and not even bother to tell us what it's being used for," Latimer said.

Leasing the office cost the county $85,000.

William O'Reilly, a spokesman for Astorino, said Latimer's "theater of the ridiculous" is continuing.

"Darn straight County Executive Astorino is encouraging companies to come here from the city and elsewhere -- that's part of his job," O'Reilly said. "More than 44,000 new private sector jobs have come to Westchester in the past seven years, with thousands more in the pipeline. Only a career Albany politician could miss what any rational person would applaud."
