Dear Letter to the Editor,
I am so thankful. Four super qualified, dedicated and incredible citizens have put themselves into the Yorktown political arena this election season: Ilan Gilbert for Supervisor, Alice Roker for Councilperson, Vishnu Patel for re-election as Councilperson and Ms. Aviah Cohen Pierson for Town Justice. All have been vetted, all are long-time Yorktown citizens with families here. They all have volunteered and/or have given of themselves to the Yorktown Community for many years. But the best part...is that if they ALL win and get elected....then the Yorktown government will finally be balanced and will accurately represent the Yorktown electorate, the people who actually live here - in our town. We are from many paths, from many parties. We are women and men. We are many religions and many backgrounds. If Aviah Cohen Pierson wins for Town Justice, she would be Yorktown's first woman Justice. And if the Democrat candidates for the Board all get voted in....the Town Board would then consist of: 3 Democrats, 2 Republicans, 1 woman and two individuals of color. Now THAT better represents Yorktown. Consequently, if all of the Republican candidates win, then the Yorktown Town Board will then be ALL white, conservative men, which does NOT accurately represent the many women, children, families and the terrific, diverse community that makes this such a successful and pleasant place to live. So please vote for Mr. Ilan Gilbert, Ms. Alice Roker and Mr. Vishnu Patel for the Town Board and Ms. Aviah Cohen Pierson for Town Justice - on Tuesday, November 7, and restore the balance in Yorktown.
