YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee ruled recently that the Yorktown Democrats committed several unfair practices in the March 2015 campaign for the Yorktown Town Board.
The committee met on March 31 to address complaints filed by Republicans Tom Diana and Greg Bernard, who successfully ran for two open seats on the Town Board, against Democrats Roseanne Brackett and Bob Giordano.
Bernard and Diana filed 12 complaints and the committee ruled in favor of four of their claims.
The committee said a claim that Bernard and Diana had passed phony tax cuts was unfair since they were not on the Town Board. A web advertisement that said the Demcrats were the only candidates truly committed to honesty, integrity, and transparency was also deemed unfair as well as an advertisement saying that the Democrats were the only candidates who support stronger ethnic laws.
The committee said a claim that Bernard and Diana were in favor of closed door decision making was normal campaign discourse .
