Yorktown Officials Approve Highway Truck Purchases

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – The Yorktown Town Board held a rare afternoon meeting Thursday and awarded two separate bids totaling more than $400,000.

One of the bids approved by Supervisor Michael Grace and council members Vishnu Patel and Dave Paganelli was for $361,200 to Gabrielli Truck Sales for the purchase of two stainless steel highway trucks. The trucks will replace two 1992 models in the Yorktown Highway Department.

"Hopefully these trucks will last 25 to 30 years," said Grace, who noted the town saved about $40,000 by utilizing local bids instead of a state bid.

Town Comptroller Joan Goldberg suggested the board consider adopting a policy to set aside $100,000 annually in the highway department for the replacement of vehicles.

"There has to be a commitment of the board," she said. "There's always another project. There's always another road to be paved."

The town board is also looking at adopting a new vehicle management plan and establishing a fund balance policy.

"Our goal is to have long-term sustainability," Grace said.

Meanwhile, the board also awarded a $43,508 bid to Sullivan Data for computer upgrades throughout the town. Thirteen companies were sent bid specifications for the project.
