YORKTOWN, N.Y. Yorktown school bus drivers without on-site parking will be allowed to park on Front Street for a little while longer, but the Yorktown Town Board is putting the onus on the bus company to find a long-term alternative.
With no place to park on the Baumann and Sons site, drivers frequently park along Front Street or in the neighboring UPS lot, which UPS has reportedly complained about. The bus drivers said there are also few places to park on Front Street because there are "no parking" restrictions on the right side from Moseman Avenue to the cul-de-sac.
Youre supposed to have parking on-site. You cant fit it anymore so youre spilling out in the road, said Supervisor Michael Grace told Baumann representatives Tuesday night. If you can try and stay away from [UPS] building that will be appreciated. In the meantime, well suspend the no parking regulations.
The board said Baumann and Sons has several options for parking solutions, such as creating additional space on existing property, leasing spaces from a neighboring property or shuttling drivers into the bus lot.
Drivers dismissed the idea of being shuttled in because of different work schedules. An attorney for the company said a previous proposal to build on company property was dismissed because of wetlands issues.
Let me try and talk to UPS, see if we can get a short-term working lease with them, said council member Terrence Murphy. In the short-term, well see what we can do with UPS while you move forward on your long-term application.
The no-parking restriction on Front Street will be relaxed for between six months to a year while Baumann and Sons figures out a long-term solution.
