UPDATED: YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Polls for Yorktown’s Primary Elections open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. Tuesday, with contested races, including several write-in candidates vying for votes in the Independence and Conservative primaries.
Town Board members Richard Campanaro and Vishnubhai Patel are running in the Independence primary. There also is the option for Independence voters to write in a candidate's name.
On the Conservative ballot, Town Board member Terrence Murphy will run along with Campanaro. Conservative voters also have the option of choosing a write-in candidate.
Murphy is also campaigning as a write-in Independence candidate and Dorothy Forcina is running as a write-in for the Conservative and Independence lines.
The Yorktown supervisor position also is up for grabs on the Conservative and Independence ballots. Current Town Board member Nicholas Bianco is running on both tickets. Voters also have the option of writing in a candidate on both the Conservative and Independence lines.
Incumbent Supervisor Michael Grace is also seeking the Conservative and Independence lines as a write-in candidate.
In the highway superintendent race, Conservatives have the option of voting for Dave Paganelli, a current town board member or writing in a candidate. Registered Democrats can choose from three candidates running for highway superintendent: Thomas Diana, Virgil Borrelli and Stephen Gardner. Diana also is on the Independence ballot, which also has the option of writing in a candidate. On the Republican ticket, Paganelli, Gregory Bernard and Ray Nikisher will run against each other.
Bernard is also seeking the Conservative and Independence lines as a write-in candidate.
Buchanan resident Duane Jackson, running for the District 1 seat on the Westchester County Board of Legislators, will be on the Independence ticket. Voters also have the option of writing in a candidate for the District 1 seat, which represents Cortlandt, Peekskill and Yorktown.
