Beekman Woman Charged With Collecting $8.2K In Unemployment Benefits

BEEKMAN, N.Y. — A woman from Beekman is charged with grand larceny for collecting unemployment benefits while she was gainfully employed, New York State Police said.

Dawn A. Jawrower, 45, is accused of unlawfully collecting over $8,200 in unemployment benefits between January of 2011 and June of 2013. The defendant created false business records by falsely certifying that she was totally unemployed when in fact she was gainfully employed, said New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Poughkeepsie barracks.

She was charged with Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony, for Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st Degree, a Class E Felony, and Falsifying Business Records in the 1st Degree, a Class E Felony.

The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by the New York State Department of Labor and the New York State Police.

Jawrower was arraigned before the Town of LaGrange Court and released on her own recognizance. She is due to appear before the Town of Beekman Court on Jan. 28.
