Stolen Car Found In Ramapo; Driver Charged With Theft

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A car that was stolen in Brooklyn has been recovered, thanks to the sharp eyes of a Ramapo police officer.

The officer spotted the purloined vehicle Tuesday afternoon and stopped its driver.

The unidentified suspect, a 42-year-old man from Brooklyn, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, police said.

He was sent to Rockland County Jail pending the posting of an unspecified bail or an upcoming court date, police said.

Ramapo police also handled a total of 129 calls on Tuesday, including: eight alarm activations, one fire, 12 medical emergencies and two other arrests for larceny and a “domestic related crime.”

Police also investigated six motor vehicle accidents at the following locations: Route 17 in Hillburn; Sixth Street in Hillburn; Maple Avenue in Monsey; North Main Street in Hillcrest; East Willow Tree Road in Wesley Hills; and Mariner Way in Viola.

One of those accidents involved injuries, police said.
