The Bound Brook man was struck while crossing West Union Avenue from the south side to the north side when he was struck by an east bound vehicle in the inner eastbound lane around 10:35 p.m. Saturday, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said.

The driver fled the scene, Robertson said.

The victim was treated at the scene then taken to an area hospital, where he was listed stable condition as of Tuesday, authorities said.

On Sunday night, concerned citizens detained a Plainfield man who chased after a victim in his SUV and hit him, leaving him critical, during a dispute overnight in North Plainfield, authorities said.
