Harbor Square, a $65 million development along the Hudson River near the Ossining Train Station, celebrated its grand opening Thursday morning. Harbor Square, developed by Ginsburg Development Companies, features 188 luxury rental units, with a mix of studio and 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartments. Harbor Square also features a 6,000-square-foot restaurant.

The village also celebrated the opening of Henry Gourdine Park, which is at Hudson Square. The $1 million park is named in honor of a local fisherman.

Harbor Square began development in 2005 with a groundbreaking taking place in 2006. The project was delayed by the recession and a second groundbreaking was held in 2014.

"Working together we have been able to transform a former industrial property into a magnificent mixed-use residential community," Martin Ginsburg, principal of GDC, said.

Ginsburg said the Hudson River has been underutilized by its communities for too long.

"There are people living near the river that don't know it exists," Ginsburg said. ""We can all come together to enhance the quality of life in our villages."

Mayor Victoria Gearity praised elected officials and developers for helping to shepherd the project through its completion.

"Today is a celebration of what makes Ossining special," Gearity said. "It's a new day. Is there any place more magnificent to watch a sunset than over the Hudson River? We are delighted to be welcoming this new opportunity for more people to enjoy the beauty of our village."

Legislator Catherine Borgia (D-Ossining) echoed Ginsburg's comments in that there needs to be more opportunities for residents to interact with the Hudson River.

"This gives us a beautiful public space," Borgia said. "This area needed to be accessible. Today is the day."

County Executive Rob Astorino praised the new arch sculpture that was installed at Harbor Square.

"St. Louis better watch out," Astorino said. "Everyone will be able to enjoy the new park and the new riverwalk. Congratulations to all of you."

An open house will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on June 25 and June 26.
