The second annual Farm Fest in October is part of the school's Farm-to-School Month starring the school’s ever-growing garden.
It highlights an outdoor experience for the students who learn about nutrition and sustainability, said Principal Lori Roberts.
The event marked the debut of the school's pollination garden, designed to attract butterflies and other pollinators.
The school’s Garden Committee organized the morning event with help from the PTA and Foundation for Excellence, which paid for the garden.
There were demonstrations from local farmers, nutritionists, beekeepers and chefs.
“We bring the students into the garden often, but particularly on this day we want to provide activities to help them understand more about their food and how to make healthy choices,” said the school nurse Elaine Goodman, a member of the garden committee.
One of the booths that day was led by Superintendent of Schools Ralph Napolitano, where he demonstrated his family’s marinara sauce recipe jarred in August during the peak tomato-growing season.
Another highlight of the morning event was the dedication of a wooden arbor donated and built by the Sichling family in memory of Brenda Sichling, a former CTA at Crompond who died recently.
