SHRUB OAK, N.Y. -- New York State recently approved the Lakeland Central School District's Smart School proposal.

“Since technology is always changing, the district's technology plan will be reviewed annually and adjusted as needed to address these changes,” said Dwayne Hoffmann, director of information technology.

Lakeland is one of 52 districts in the state to receive approval so far. The district will receive $3,648,139, which will be used over the course of several years.

The proposal calls for:

  • iPads at the K-1 level and Chromebooks at grades 2-12.
  • Replacement/upgraded Apple computers in areas such as art and music.
  • Replacement of aging projectors throughout the district.

“The district views technology as a resource that has the capacity to transform learning,” said Linda Brandon, director of instructional technology. “Over the next few years the district's plan will ensure a device for every student. Anytime, anywhere learning with technology will be possible.
