Lakeland Schools Budget Passes By Wide Margin

SHRUB OAK, N.Y. – Voters passed the Lakeland Central School District 2013-14 budget with little resistance Tuesday.

Voters approved the proposed 2013-14 budget of $160,364,916 with 872 votes in favor and 334 votes against, school officials said. The budget includes a district wide tax levy of 2.93 percent.

Incumbent Board of Education president Elizabeth Kogler and trustees Steve Korn and Steve Rosen also won re-election. The three candidates were running unopposed. Kogler led the way receiving 1,030 votes with Korn garnering 1,005 and Rosen earning 1,001 votes, school officials said Tuesday evening.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. George Stone said he was very happy to hear so many people came out to vote Tuesday.

“We appreciate the people who came out to support the budget and I think our voters recognize that we had a responsible process in developing the budget,” Stone said Tuesday evening. “We tried to be fiscally responsible and make sure everything we found important was in there. It was a team effort and I think we’re all very pleased.”
