Steve Rosen, a four-term trustee who was re-elected last year, was paid $22,690 from the Lakeland School District since 2008, according to a Tax Watch investigation by LoHud.
School board members are only allowed to earn $750 a year from the district. The district paid Rosen to run the clock and provide security at high school games, according to LoHud.
"The Board of Education will seek to recover the overpayments made to Board Member Steve Rosen," the board said in a statement issued April 6. "The Lakeland Audit Committee will undertake a review of internal controls and procedures. Internal controls are reviewed annually by the district's external auditor and have been reviewed in the past by the district's internal auditor. Existing controls will be reviewed this year without waiting for the annual audit.
In a statement issued March 31, the board praised Rosen as a tireless and dedicated youth volunteer in the school community and an important and contributory member of the school board.
