YORKTOWN, N.Y. - The Yorktown Board of Education has appointed a new assistant principal at Mildred E. Strang Middle School.
Marie Horowitz, who was a social studies and science chairperson at Chestnut Ridge Middle School in the East Ramapo School District and summer school principal at Sleepy Hollow middle and high schools, will replace Deirdre Amerling. Amerling was recently named principal of Brookside Elementary School, replacing John Wells, who retired.
"We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Horowitz to the Yorktown schools, and believe that her skills and experience in developing and supervising teams of teachers, in using technology and in building safe, secure and supportive environments for students and staff will be a tremendous asset to us all," said Schools Superintendent Ralph Napolitano. "Mrs. Horowitz comes highly recommended as a teacher leader and staff developer."
Strang Principal Linda Grimm is also looking forward to working with Horowitz.
"Mrs. Horowitz's knowledge and familiarity with many of our programs and evaluation rubrics will enable her to hit the ground running," Grimm said. "She was responsible for initiating many programs at the Chestnut Ridge Middle School that we have at MESMS. She will be an asset to our school and district."
