Opt-Out Numbers Climb At Yorktown As Math Testing Begins

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The number of parents having their children opt out of state tests has increased substantially in Yorktown.

Thirty percent of Yorktown students have opted out of the state math test.

In grades 3 to 5, 242 students declined to take the math tests, according to info provided by the Yorktown Central School District.

In grades 6 to 8, 257 students declined. 

This is approximately 30 percent of all eligible students, according to the district.

Last year, 97 percent of all students participated in the tests, according to the distict.
