Tuesday was back to school day for most of the more than 5,000 students in the Ossining School District, from pre-kindergarteners starting their education to the freshman class entering Ossining High School.

"We are excited to have our children back,” Superintendent Raymond Sanchez said. “It's going to be a great year filled with many successes.”

At Ossining High School, students picked up their schedules and made their way to the gymnasium to start orientation. They attended workshops and were treated to a barbecue lunch.

Freshman Julian Avilas said he wants to be successful in high school.

“I’m looking forward to passing every class and just getting past this year, just moving on,” he said.

Children entering pre-kindergarten and kindergarten talked about meeting their teachers and making new friends at Park School.

“I’m excited to see my teacher,” said Ariana Sosa, who along with her twin, Analise, picked a few flowers for their teacher.

Kindergartener Evangelin Young said she is happy that she gets to go to class on the second floor at Park this year. Pre-kindergarteners’ classes are on the first floor.

“I’m excited because I get to go upstairs,” Evangelin said.
