Levin, the parent coordinator in the Ossining School District received the Employee of the Year award from the Ossining Rotary Club at its annual scholarship fundraiser Monday. Levin has worked in the district for the last 11 years.

“It’s not just for me,” Levin said. “I feel that there are a lot of people behind me that make my work possible.”

A native of Chile, Levin came to New York to learn English at SUNY Albany. Levin said she studied computer programming in Chile and needed to learn English to pursue that career.

Along the way, she discovered she was a “people person” and changed course. In her position with Ossining schools, she creates links with the community and provides guidance in academics as well as social and emotional support to families. She is currently studying for a master’s degree in social work at Fordham University.

“Since I’m part of the community, I feel that I’m serving the community through my job,” Levin said. “It’s not only me helping the community, but at the same time I grow with them and they help me to become aware of the needs in the community.”

Superintendent Raymond Sanchez, who nominated Ms. Levin for the award, said she “goes above and beyond each and every day” in her work with Hispanic families in the district.

“She treats everyone she meets like family,” Sanchez said. “She is warm and welcoming and makes everyone in her presence feel comfortable.”
