Panas Juniors Win Awards at Science Fair

Tanay Bhandarker and Elizabeth Sillcocks won awards at the recent Tri-County Science and Technology Fair.

CORTLANDT, N.Y. - Two juniors from Walter Panas High School recently performed well at the Tri-County Science and Technology Fair in White Plains.

Tanay Bhandarkar and Elizabeth Sillcocks, both members of the Lakeland School District science research program, won awards in their respective divisions. The fair is open to all students in grades 9-12 in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties.

Bhandarkar finished in second place in physics for his project entitled "Dark Matter Detection in Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies."

Sillcocks received a third-place award in psychology for her presentation called "Is Nutrition Education in Schools Causing an Increase in the Prevalence of Eating Disorder Behavior in Adolescence?"
