She is Autumn Jacobs, a BOCES Student of Distinction. The recognition came at a Peekskill Board of Education meeting.

Jacobs is a second year student in the Culinary Program at BOCES Tech Center and said the program has greatly helped shape her future.

“I’ve always wanted to work in culinary since I was little, so I started with the BOCES classes just to see if I would like it as a career as an adult,” Jacobs said.

“In the program, I’ve learned knife skills, recipes from all over the world and the hospitality side of culinary. Being in BOCES has helped me become very well rounded in culinary and it will help me in the field when I’m older.”

Jacobs' family joined her at a Nov. 15 ceremony, along with BOCES administrators, Superintendent Dr. James Ryan, Assistant Superintendent John McCarthy, Tech Center Principal James Bellucci and School Counselor Gerry Battista.

“There isn’t enough time or enough great words to describe Autumn,” Bellucci said. “In the two years that she has been in our program, she has had so much growth and achievement.”

Bellucci read a letter by her teachers describing Jacobs as a student with “diligent work ethic and personal character.”

A certificate of recognition and medal of honor was presented to Jacobs by Bellucci.

She has been accepted to Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island.

Carol and Richard Jacobs, her parents, were equally excited about their daughter’s accomplishments.

“I’m very proud of Autumn,”  said Richard.

“She was a very shy person when she began the BOCES program, and even at Peekskill High School, but she has really blossomed. She has matured very much in a short period of time.”

“I’ve always been proud of her,” Carol said.

“It’s just nice to see other people recognize how special and smart she is.”
