The event will take an unflinching look at the legal and health consequences of underage substance abuse and is presented by the Rye Youth Council in cooperation with the Rye City School District and Rye-ACT, the Rye-Action for Children and Teens Community Coalition.

The Symposium event moderator is Ellen Morehouse, an executive director of Student Assistant Services Corporation, a Tarrytown-based non-profit specializing in substance abuse prevention and early intervention services, programming and training.

Morehouse will moderate representatives from medical emergency services, local and county police and the Westchester District Attorney’s Office. The event will also feature a performance by a group of Rye High School students under the direction of Theater Arts teacher Michael Limone. Students and parents are encouraged to attend.

Parents, did you know that:

  • You can be held accountable for enabling underage drinking, even if you are not at home?
  • Your teen is at greater risk of breaking the law if they engage in sexual activity under the influence?
  • Drugs today are far more potent than those available when you were in high school or college?
Teens, did you know that:
  • You are at greater risk of alcohol poisoning if you also smoked marijuana?
  • New York State law can protect you when you seek help for a friend in a medical emergency, even if you are under the influence yourself?
  • You can be arrested if a friend has drugs in your car?
