YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Students at The Tech Center recently participated in a pilot workshop on the campus of Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES.
The workshop, titled Xtreme iLab, is The Tech Center’s own take on the Maker-Space style of learning that is being piloted in forward-thinking school districts across the country.
The idea is to encourage creative group problem solving and explore ways to help students use their own skills collaboratively to achieve fresh results.
Tech Center student Calyx Davis, from North Salem, said that the workshop was helping students expand their skill set. “It’s really teaching creative-thinking skills,” she said.
Student Matt Cimadomo, from Mahopac, said he liked the collaborative idea behind the workshop. “It’s great to work with people who have different ideas.”
Elisa Altieri from Somers enjoyed the way the workshop encouraged different types of thinking from traditional classroom work. As she summed it up, “It’s great to use other parts of my brain!”
