Heidi Bonorato, owner and program director of Giving Retriever, which specializes in training therapy dogs, brought along an 11-year-old Golden Retriever who is a service dog ambassador and puppy mentor, and a seven-month-old yellow lab retriever in training.

Tech Center teacher Christian Urbanski said students learned about the therapeutic value of assistance-dog training as well as how assistance dogs help special needs families.

“She discussed with us how she selects puppies, trains them and finally places the dogs. She had the students participate in some training exercises. It was a great visit,” Urbanski said.
