The school district now has four Twitter accounts including ones by Superintendent Dr. Ralph Napolitano, High School Principal Joseph DeGennaro and accounts for school alerts and for the district.

Napolitano has used his twitter account, @DrRNap, to tweet about school assemblies and to update a Yorktown baseball game against Greeley. DeGennaro has used his twitter account to let parents and students know about key events at the high school.

"I find Twitter a quick way to send out announcements, reminders, and congratulatory pieces that the community is interested in hearing/ reading," Napolitano said. "It is an easy way to communicate with staff, students and parents."

DeGennaro said using his Twitter feed, @YHSDeGennaro, has made it easier for him further communicate with students and their families.

"Social media is such a major part of teenagers' lives," DeGennaro, who has been on Twitter for a year said. "The immediacy and accessibility has been very helpful. It has allowed me to work closely with our students and lead by example by modeling appropriate use of technology."
