Yorktown High Band Performs Sweet Music in Hershey

Yorktown High School Concert Band was rated "superior" at festival in Hershey, Pa.

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – The Yorktown High School Concert Band was rated "superior" at the Music in the Parks Festival in Hershey, Pa. last weekend.

As part of the festival, the band, which includes 82 student musicians in grades nine to 11, was judged by a panel of college music professors who evaluated the group's ability to play with correct technique, tone, balance, intonation and musicality.

Yorktown performed two musical selections, "Among the Clouds" by Brian Balmages and "Foundry" by John Mackey.

"It was a pleasure to spend the day with the students," said band teacher Emily Kluga. "I always love watching the camaraderie that is developed as the students try their collective musical best and show their band pride and spirit. These are the kind of moments that really help unite and build a strong band program."

On Monday starting at 11 a.m., students in both the middle and high school bands will perform at the Memorial Day Parade in Yorktown.
