YORKTOWN, N.Y. Four students from Yorktown High School are finalists for the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program, out of 16,000 semifinalists.
Certificates of Merit were given to the four Yorktown seniors Michael A. Beechert, Samuel A. Donow, Rachel N. Lee and Juliana H. Vigorito who will be among competitors for 8,400 merit scholarships. Student Shanelle Glanville has qualified as a finalist for the National Achievement Scholarship.
To become a finalist, semifinalists must have outstanding academic records throughout high school, earn SAT scores that confirm their academic performance and be endorsed by their high school principal.
Part of the process is a detailed scholarship application, including students' self-descripitive essays as well as information about their participation and leadership in school and community activities.
