YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Yorktown students were introduced to the benefits of community service at a young age last week.

Last Monday and Tuesday, starting at noon, The Enrichment Center sponsored a car wash to benefit the Alliance for Safe Kids (ASK). Students, faculty and staff washed cars in the Crompond Intermediate School parking lot. Reportedly, the volunteers raised a total of $200.

"It was just a way to introduce the kids to the idea of community service," said Lisa Tomeny, the executive director for ASK. "The adults really helped the kids to wash a lot of the cars, but it was a great way to teach them what community service is and that it can be fun.
