Dear parents and guardians, As I write to you today, we are preparing for the end of the first quarter. The fall sports season has quickly concluded and we admire and appreciate all of our student athletes, particularly those whose performances brought boys and girls soccer, field hockey, volleyball and football to the sectional finals. We continue to have hope and high expectations for our football team, who will be playing against Rye at Mahopac on Saturday, Nov. 9. Go Huskers.

As we prepare for the upcoming Thanksgiving season, I am thankful for all of the students, parents and staff members who make the Yorktown Central School District a special place to learn, teach and grow into becoming the best people we can be. While Thanksgiving season provides me with the opportunity to speak these words to all of you, these are words that I feel every day of the year; YCSD is indeed a special place to be.

We look forward to the drama “The Crucible” performed by Yorktown High School thespians under the direction of English teacher Ms. Wooley. We are also looking forward to International Night at Mildred E. Strang Middle School, where entertainment and edible delights from all over the world are presented by students in grades six through eight, thanks to Ms. McIntosh and Ms. Ricci. Crompond School classes will welcome Golden Guests soon, and the winter athletics season will begin.

Please check the YCSD calendar to take advantage of the opportunities provided for you to be a guest in our schools.

I hope that you have the opportunity to view our Board of Education meeting video from Monday, November 3, 2014 on our website. Brookside kindergarten students presented “A Day in the Life of a Kindergartner.” It was a hoot (no pun intended) with guest stars Echo the Owl and Bark the Dog.

I wish you and all those you love the many blessings of the Thanksgiving season. With warm regards, Ralph Napolitano, Ed.D.
