On Friday, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Janine Gibney, an English teacher at the Mildred E Strang Middle School, and an officer for the Yorktown Congress of Teachers, will join the youth of the Teen Center in a celebration.
A Zumba program, pingpong and karaoke were all items selected by the teens and purchased with the grant, the second place prize in the American Federation of Teachers "Share My Plan" contest.
“Share My Lesson is pleased to be partnering with the Yorktown Congress of Teachers to sponsor this community outreach event,” said General Manager Scott Noon.
"The Teen Center serves our students and we value that partnership. We are proud to add the Yorktown Teen Center to the growing list of local charities and organizations the Yorktown Congress of Teachers supports," YCT President Sean Kennedy said in a statement.
Open to sixth- through twelfth-graders, The Yorktown Teen Center was recently named the 2013 Organization of the Year by the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce.
Developed by the American Federation of Teachers and TSL Education, Share My Lesson is a website where educators can come together to share their very best lesson plans and other teaching resources.
