YORKTOWN, N.Y.At its annual fundraising event, Yorktowns Foundation for Excellence raised thousands of dollars to help schools fund things not included in the schools budget.
The fundraiser was held in the end of January at Peter Pratts, and raised a total of $3,200, said Jane DeCoursey, vice president of the foundation.
Every year the FFE raises money at four major events," said DeCoursey. "In the spring we ask teachers and staff to submit grants for school needs that are not met by the budget. The FFE board votes and grants out all monies collected that year.
DeCoursey also explained that the organization gives outs two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from Yorktown High School continuing on to college.
She thanked Yorktown Wine and Liquor owner Lew Stern, as well as Jon Pratt of Peter Pratts for their help and donations. She thanked the school superintendent, Ralph Napolitano, teachers, council member Vishnu Patel and all others who came out to support the event.
The money raised is just part of the money the foundation will give back to teachers, as grant applications are collected in March and April, DeCoursey said. During the school year of 2010-2011 the FFE raised and dispersed roughly $28,000.
