Yorktown Baseball Camp Registration Deadline Approaching

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- 21st Century Sports is about to begin its 10th year hosting weekly summer baseball camps, with July offerings in Mamaroneck, Yorktown and Danbury, Conn. Summer camp programs also are scheduled in August in Harrison, Rye, Chappaqua and Briarcliff.

The summer camps are designed for players ages 5 to 13. Campers are evaluated by trainers and grouped according to both age and skill level. The staff typically includes former professional players, current college coaches and players, as well area high school coaches and athletes.

Bill Consiglio, founder & chief executive officer of 21st Century Sports, said his camps aim to keep today's players actively engaged while improving performance through a variety of innovative methods, including smaller teams (six versus six), modified equipment for younger age groups (larger, but lighter bats and balls) and 21CS training tablets.

"Kids absolutely love it," Consiglio said.

Most children already learn on a Smartboard in school. A few years ago, Consiglio wondered, "How can we bring this same model of learning to the baseball field?"

Consiglio's trainers use the photo- and video-capable tablets to show campers right on the ball field how they are hitting and how they can immediately improve their ability.

"Their interest level shoots right up,'' Consiglio said. "It's staggering. Our training tablets are a powerful teaching tool and quickly improve players' motivation as well as performance."   While Consiglio has a background in education, he said he's been fortunate to have worked for some of the best baseball coaches in the world, including current USA Baseball and St. Johns Head Coach Ed Blankmeyer, Arizona State Head Coach Tracy Smith and Scott Brown, pitching coach at Vanderbilt, defending NCAA national champions.

"Our goal is clear: To help kids take their game wherever they want to go with it, whether it's to make their local team or become an All-American,'' Consigliio said. "This is what we do and have the track record to prove it."

Since 2000, trainers from 21CS have coached more than 200 players who have signed professional baseball contracts, Consiglio said.   21CS's final discount deadline for its July camps is next Wednesday, June 17.
