Cheerleading Competition Comes To Yorktown High Saturday

There are four youth divisions to participate in this year:

  • Pee Wee (second grade and under).
  • Youth (grades three-four).
  • Junior (grades five-six).
  • Senior (grades six-eight).

There are two high school divisions to participate in this year:

  • Junior varsity (grades nine-11).
  • Varsity (grades nine-12). Varsity divisions based on Section One Conference number and squad size. Varsity divisions may be combined based on number of team registrations. 

The spectator fee is $8 for adults, $5 for children, and seniors and children younger than 5 are free. 

A schedule of the program is below. 

Times may vary depending on registration numbers.

Morning competition: 8 a.m. -- Youth team registration  8:30 a.m. -- Youth mat time begins 9:30 a.m. -- Gym and cafeteria open for morning spectators. 10 a.m. -- Opening ceremonies/morning competition begins.

Afternoon competition: Noon -- JV and varsity team registrations. 12:30 p.m. -- JV and varsity mat time begins in middle school gym. 2 p.m. -- Opening ceremonies/afternoon competition begins.

The competition will occur on a 54-by-42-foot matted surface (nine mats). All stunts and tumbling must be performed within the matted area. Each performer will be given 2 1/2 minutes to perform the entire routine. Mat time and tumble time (five minutes each) will be provided to each team. No cheerleader may compete in two divisions.

Trophies will be provided to the top placing squads in each division. Refreshments and cheerleading merchandise will be available for purchase.
