Cortlandt Spirit Stars Excel At Yorktown Cheerleading Competition

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- The Cortlandt-based Spirit Stars Cheerleading and Tumble Center senior team won first place in its division at the recent Yorktown cheerleading competition.

The Spirit Stars received the highest score of the competition, earning them the grand champion trophy.

The team also received the highest score of the competition, earning it the grand champion trophy. This team made up of sixth- and seventh-grade athletes from various local middle schools performed a nearly flawless routine. 

The 12 girls on the team are coached by Faith Powell, who said, "I always just tell them to go out there and do their absolute best, and if they walk off the mat proud of what they just did, then that is all I ask." 

Fifteen other youth teams took part in the competition.
