Yorktown's Empire State Huskies Win Travel Softball Finale

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The Empire State Huskies 2K 12-and-under softball team closed out the fall travel season in style.

The Huskies defeated the Newtown Hawks to win the USSSA fall finale in East Hartford, Conn.

As a result of their win, the Huskies, who went 4-0 for the tournament, have qualified for the 2013 USSSA Nationals in Orlando, Fla.

The team is comprised of Olivia Martino (Mamaroneck), Gabby Raffa (Yorktown), Antonia Perino (Hawthorne), Samantha Riccardulli (Crotlandt Manor), Angie Serrano and Reilly Koch (Yorktown), Claire Fon (Shrub Oak), Olivia Lipski (Katonah), Maghan Murphy (Yonkers), Megan Schumacher, Evelyn Prinze and Ally Fitzgerald.

The Huskies crushed the Wreckers, 12-1, in their opening game and followed it up with a 5-2 win over the Eliminators. The Huskies opened the championship round by silencing the Mirage, 2-0. This came after the Mirage scored 16 runs in its previous game.
