The reports, which are from Lohud and The Putnam Counter Courier, attribute the language to the unidentified player based on interviews with Mahopac Interim Superintendent Brian Monahan and Carmel Deputy Superintendent Andy Irvin.

Irvin, according to Lohud, said that he was told a Mahopac player used the n-word repeatedly. Irvin, the Courier reports, praised Monahan for taking the allegations seriously.

Carmel has requested that a third official be present for the team's next game against Mahopac, according to Lohud.

Attempts to get comment from Monahan, Irvin and Carmel Superintendent James Ryan were unsuccessful.

The next Carmel-Mahopac boys varsity basketball game is scheduled for Jan. 23 at 4 p.m. Mahopac is set to be the home team.
