YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Yorktown High School boys’ basketball player Mason Dyslin is The Yorktown Daily Voice Athlete of the Month for January.

Dyslin had an extremely consistent month as he posted point totals of 17, 16 and 11 to go along with a 33-point outburst Jan. 21 against Dobbs Ferry. He added nine points and eight rebounds in a 68-57 overtime win Jan. 30 against Roosevelt.

“He’s really putting together a nice season and it started a lot after the new year,” said Yorktown coach Chris Caputi.

The Huskers have not had much team success this season at just 4-11, but Dyslin, a sophomore, has proven himself game after game.

“He’s a developing player and every time that he takes the floor in practice and game, he gets better and better almost every minute that he’s with us,” Caputi said. “He wants to become a team leader, the best that he can be. As a sophomore, we've instilled a lot of confidence in him.”

Dyslin is well aware of that support and has used it to elevate his game.

“I definitely have been getting more confident in myself and there’s been more plays run for me,” Dyslin said. “My confidence has helped me knock some shots down.”

Dyslin also has developed a lot more confidence in his three-point shooting ability. Caputi said Dyslin must shoot often in order for the team to have success.

The sophomore knows there is plenty of room for improvement. He wants to develop his one-on-one game and work on attacking the basket. As for the team, he’d like to make a run in the sectional tournament.

And he wants to help lead them there.

“I’d like to keep scoring at a high level and make sure I do something to make sure we keep winning every game,” Dyslin said.
