Nick Santavicca's Ground Gains Fuel Early Surge For Yorktown

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Led by senior running back Nick Santavicca, Yorktown High School’s football team has jumped off to a 2-0 start and made a big move in the latest state rankings by MaxPreps.

The Huskers, with resounding wins over Our Lady of Lourdes in Poughkeepsie and John Jay of East Fishkill, moved up 27 spots in the MaxPreps rankings and are now 30th in the state and fourth in Class A.

Yorktown will face one of its toughest challenges of the season when it visits Rye (2-0) on Friday night. The Garnets are ranked 34th in the state and fifth in Class A.

Santavicca, who rushed for 1,726 yards and 13 touchdowns last year, already has 413 yards and two touchdowns through two games this season. Against John Jay, Santavicca rushed for 232 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. He is third among state running backs in rushing yards. He scored on an 86-yard touchdown run against John Jay. Junior quarterback Jose Boyer joins Santavicca to give Yorktown a dynamic two-man punch. Boyer has scored four touchdowns and rushed for 288 yards on just 16 carries. He rambled for 211 yards against John Jay.

Yorktown’s defense has been anchored by Justin Cavallo and Dom Cioffi, each of whom have 16 tackles through two games.

Yorktown has lost its last two meetings vs. Rye, including a 35-14 setback last year.

Rye owns wins over Somers and Sleepy Hollow.
