Pace University Baseball Players Making Their Mark In The Pros

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- The Pace University baseball team was well-represented across the professional level this summer as three former Setters are competing for minor league teams. 

David Pepe, Mackenzie King and Jonathan Chudy are representing Pace in semi-pro ball this summer.

Mackenzie King '11 is playing for the Lincoln (Neb.) Saltdogs, David Pepe '14 is competing for the Bluefield (W.Va.) Blue Jays, and Jonathan Chudy '15 is suiting up with the Fargo-Moorhead (N.D) Red Hawks.

The Bluefield Blue Jays are a rookie affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays and play in the Appalachian League. The team is currently tied for second place in the East Division with a 1-1 record. In three games, Pepe has scored three runs and knocked in two RBI while maintaining a .500 on-base percentage. He spent his 2014 campaign with the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays, another rookie level affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. During that season, he hit .304 with 11 runs scored and 11 RBI in 69 at bats.  The Lincoln Saltdogs play their games in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball League. King has struck out four batters in just 2.1 innings of work for the Saltdogs so far this season. He has played for five different independent ball clubs so far during his professional career, accumulating a 10-9 record with a 4.70 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 212.1 innings pitched. 

The Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks also play in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball League. In his first stint at the professional level, Chudy has compiled a 3.55 earned run average with six strikeouts in 12.2 innings pitched. 

Pepe and Chudy were both key pieces of the 2013 squad that achieved a 33-17 record and secured a trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament
