YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Yorktown's annual Turkey Bowl Flag Football fundraiser keeps getting better. Winning teams in all divisions will receive big prizes as well as championship pins.
Yorkville Sports Association is also introducing team prices to help make the fundraiser a huge success.
“We are pleased to be offering additional prizes and team pricing to reduce the cost to players so they can enjoy the Turkey Bowl and we can support our local food pantries,” says Yorkville Sports Association President Al Morales.
The 2015 Turkey Bowl -- scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 28 -- will benefit local food pantries including Yorktown Community Help (YCH), a Yorktown-based nonprofit that was founded in the 1960s. Its purpose is to provide food to individuals and families in need. YCH is 100 percent volunteer run and will be accepting donations and non-perishable foods at the event. First place in the men's and coed divisions will receive $500 cash and championship pinnies. The winner of the family division will receive championship pinnies and gift certificates to local eateries. And the tournament MVP will receive a football.
Additional prizes will be go to Team MVPs, Outstanding Athletic Recognition Award, Most Sportsmanship Award and the Muddiest Player Award. The event will also include a 50/50 Football Toss Accuracy Challenge. The tournament will be held at Navajo Fields at the Yorktown Sports Complex, which is generously donating their fields. You must be at least 18 years old to participate in the competitive divisions. All ages are welcome in the family division.
Every player will receive a free commemorative t-shirt. The cost to participate is $35 per player or $250 per team in the men's and coed divisions. Participation in the family division is $200 per team. The cost for students is $20 per player with a valid student id. Team check in starts at 11 a.m., and the first game begins at noon. Activities will run from noon to 3 p.m.
