MIDDLETOWN -- Yorktown seized control of the New York State Class B boys lacrosse regional semifinal immediately and was never challenged yesterday. The Cornhuskers scored four girls in the opening one minute and 52 seconds and 11 overall in the first quarter. Yorktown rode this early surge to an easy 24-5 win over Section 9 titlist Saugerties at Middletown High School. Yorktown will play Section 2 champion Burnt Hills, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. in a regional final at the University of Albany. The winner advances to the state semifinals Wednesday, 5:30 p.m., at White Plains against the Long Island champion. Nick Mariano led the offensive barrage with four goals and three assists, Justin Mabus had two goals and three assists, Brendan Regan added a goal and two assists and Conor Gately handed out four assists. Tyler Schuldt initiated the first-quarter outburst 32 seconds into the game. Alex Terry doubled the lead at the 51-second mark. Mariano scored the next two goals in a span of 36 seconds.
