Yorktown Boys Lacrosse One Win Shy of State Final

Yorktown has been in this situation before, many times, but so has many other Section 1 boys‘ lacrosse teams.

The Section 1 Class B champions are one win away from reaching the state final. To do  that, however, the Cornhuskers must overcome a Long Island school. Yorktown will play Section 8 champ Garden City in the East semifinal Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. at White Plains High School. The winner advances to the state final Saturday, 1:30 p.m. at Cicero-North Syracuse High School and will play the Irondequoit (Section 5)-Jamesville-DeWitt (Section) victor.

Unfortunately for Yorktown, Long Island teams have halted many a state-championship dream for the boys’ lacrosse teams of Section 1. Yorktown last won a state title in 2003. The Cornhuskers enter the game having outscored Saugerties and Burnt Hills, 44-8. In the 20-3 victory over Burnt Hills, Frank Fusco netted five goals and Nick Mariano added four goals.
