YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Two Yorktown students advanced to the regional portion of the Elks Lodge's Annual Hoop Shoot Tournament .

Sebastian Cano of St. Patrick's School won in the 10-11 age group and Valerie Potenza of Copper Beech Middle School was victorious in the 12-13 age group during Saturday's district round of the basketball competition at Arlington High School.

Students are required to shoot 25 free throws, and those with the highest number of baskets advance to the next round.

The next round will be held 10 a.m. Feb. 9 at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Bethpage. Cano and Potenza will compete against kids representing six other lodges, according to Michael Littleton, local Hoop Shoot chair. If they are victorious again, they would advance to the state round.
