While this is a noble project and nobody opposes it, some questions arise regarding this group's finances. Before Cortlandt, or Buchanan or Croton, gives this group any money, they should "follow the money". Originally a $200,000 project (all funded with private money), only $20,000 is available AFTER TWO YEARS of fundraising!! This group should be transparent and open their books before any public funds are committed to this project, as they now want the municipalities to contribute $@20,000, or half of the costs of Phase One. How much more taxpayer money will they need for Phase Two? How much have they raised so far and what have been their expenses? Apparently they couldn't provide these figures at Monday's meeting. Taxpayers deserve, and should demand, this disclosure before our officials decide to hand over any funds. View Comment

The town board has finally shown some common sense and fiscal restraint. After initially assuring that there would be no cost to taxpayers, this committee, after failing for two years to obtain any meaningful contributions, expected the local municipalities to bail them out. If the public thought that this was a meaningful memorial they would have backed it financially. This is just oe woman's "dream", not a project backed by the local community. Good for the town board. Ok, let's look at this. If we turn it down, in a few years there will be a new Walmart somewhere else (probably Yorktown). We will have a large empty space in the Town Center and lose lots of tax revenue. If we approve it, we get a somewhat larger Walmart, more tax revenue, a much-needed light at Baker Street and sewers. Everyone who lives nearby knew that they were moving near Rt. 6, a business zone. Which alternative makes more sense; the answer is quite clear. View Comment

The district cuts substitute pay by 10% making them the lowest paid subs in Westchester/Rockland, yet the administration takes no cut. McCann makes $279,000, a 38% increase in 6 years! Why doesn't he take the lead and cut his pay, and that of the two assistant superintendents by 10%. That would show real leadership and open the road to meaningful negotiations with the unions. It means that landlords would be forced to take Section 8 vouchers and therefore be subject to all the rules and regulations that Section 8 involves. Section 8 is voluntary and many landlords, for many reasons, choose not to participate. HUD is attempting to force this program on EVERY landlord in Westchester. This is NOT part of the stipulation agreement; rather it is another way of imposing the liberal will on us all. As for Mr. Gurian, read closely what he says. If there is any bias, it comes from him.
