I am a monthly pass holder (New Haven Line) and at first thought we should be discounted but we shouldn't. Why should we be discounted for something we used. I took the train on Thursday (Nov 1st) and my normal 42 minute train took 50. Should I get discounted for that? No. The idea of the Free tickets was to make it easier for everyone not to have to get their tickets until the following Monday. I know that made it easier for me not to have to worry. Yes, daily people saved some money but you didn't lose money and you weren't without a train. There were trains on Thursday. Considering the Storm was Monday/Tuesday and by Weds afternoon trains were limited and Thursday they were almost fully running with some delays, I would say that's not too bad.
Don't get me wrong, I think the MTA is horrible. They raise our rates over and over. With the amount of tolls and tickets, there is no way they should be in debt. But we all know there is money going to places that it shouldn't be.
Also, if they did credit us for this, all you're doing is taking more money out of the MTA which would just cause them to raise out ticket prices sooner. Sad but true.
Anyway, I would normally agree with you on the MTA and getting money back, but not in this case. View Comment
Everyone needs to deal with it. We held an election and a choice was made. If you don't like it, too bad. Could be worse... you could live in a country where you don't have a vote. View Comment
I blame Romney. Kidding...
I blame all the Yankees hitters. They all didn't hit. Yes A-Rod should hit more because of the money, but they have some guys on there that are also making good money and still didn't hit. And if you think about it, A-Rod was benched for two games and still no one hit. So he can't be blamed for losses the games he didn't play. Plan and simple, you need to blame the entire offense.
There will be some house cleaning next year but I don't think A-Rod will be one of them. View Comment
Like 9/11, we can't let the act of this horrible person make us not do what our soldiers and what our country is built on. Freedom. We need to be aware of our surroundings but we still need to lives our lives as we would or "They" win. Granted this movie is a big money maker but it makes no sense to put it directly to DVD. Again, "They" win. Gina, I understand your fears for your children, but this was one horrible coward of a person who did an stupid act. Don't let him win. If you were going to go see the movie, still go. View Comment
Good display of fireworks but would have been nice if they started at 9:30 as advertised. We live locally and timed it out to walk downtown for the show and as I left my house at 9:23pm, the show started. If starting earlier was the plan, I wish we knew. I guess next year I need to get there earlier and listen to the band and be ready for an earlier show than what the signs in the town say and what is on this website. We support all the stores that put up the money for this, but just saying... It's great that they put on this show and will continue to support our local businesses. Will buy paint from Harrison paint before going to Home Depot in a second. But in the end, our town should be able to pay.
And on that point, its pathetic that our town can't put up the money for a show and have to have our hard working stores and companies pay for this. We live in a nice area. Mamaroneck somehow finds the money. We should too. Again, just saying...

Building parking and residential would would bring more people. Yes, we need to fill the empty stores first, but newer and better stores would also be a draw. Look at downtown Rye.
And is this proposal the MTA funded one. This article didn't mention that but I do remember from the past that all of these ideas were with the MTA help.
I love the idea. Downtown needs to be revamped. View Comment
Well done Pelham PD.
I would like to add to the arrogant commuter that I saw yell at a Harrison Police officer one night. He said to the police that we don't live in a war zone and there is no reason they should be carrying machine guns. Well idiot, as you read in this article the robber was aware of place where there was increased police presence and left and went somewhere else. Now I don't wish any harm on any other town but at least someone in Harrison could have been saved based on the police presence. So to this yahoo commuter, think before you speak. I hope you read this article an realized that the Harrison Police was there to protect you to get home.
Although, I noticed this commuter got into a car and drove home. For us that have to walk a few blocks, I will take police with machine guns any day.
Glad they caught the man and hopefully we will be crime free. But still always be aware.

Exactly! It is 2012 and they are rolling out new trains and somehow they don't have WiFi on them. The new trains are already outdated before they are all out. View Comment
pat930- I agree with most of what you're saying but I think the MTA project will bring people to downtown. Store fronts are empty because no one wants to come downtown anymore. Parking isn't good so it makes it tough to come downtown. The MTA proposal will offer much more parking and apartments for NEW residents of Harrison. These people would be the buyers at the stores and restaurants. And with the parking, more people would come downtown to dine. Now as for dining, that is the problem. The restaurants are subpar. We need a Gordan Ramsey-like makeover of these places. They feel old and gloomy. It doesn't help that they aren't busy either which makes them even more gloomy. I'm not going to point out which restaurants, but if you have eaten downtown you know what I mean. But I will point out Pizza 2000. They have it right. They have a kid friendly environment and the workers there are all nice. You feel welcomed when you come. Now, back to downtown. How many dry cleaners do we need in this town? We need good boutiques like they have in Rye. Restaurants need to improve. So in the end, I am all for the MTA project. From what I have read it will be funded by the MTA (if they still have the money) and by the developer. No Harrison tax money for this and in fact, with growth of economics downtown, our taxes could come down.
I am also in favor of development on the Oakdale "Swamps." Movie theater is a good idea. Again, that will bring more people downtown. It's also a shame that the old theater on Harrison Ave just sits there. It is a classic location.
I will not be able to attend the meeting but I hope all of this gets discussed and moved on. Talk is talk, but actually doing something is different. I hope this new Mayor and group understand we want change.
