YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Jefferson Valley Mall will host “On the Road to Relay,” a kickoff fundraiser benefiting Relay for Life of Yorktown on Saturday, April 2, from noon-3 p.m.
The mall’s Center Court will be cloaked in purple for the celebration, which will feature light bites, live entertainment, a bake-off between local bakeries and the inaugural Kids Olympics competition.
“As an active supporter of various community initiatives, we are excited to once again host this kickoff event with Relay For Life of Yorktown,” said Alexa O’Rourke, marketing director at Jefferson Valley Mall.
The theme for this year’s On the Road to Relay is the Olympics and will debut the Kids Olympics, consisting of fun obstacles and prizes.
Children will be placed into one of three age categories: Speedy crawlers will relay during a Diaper Derby, while children up to age 4 participate in the Toddler Trek and 5- to 10-year-olds are challenged to the Kids Kick It with Relay.
In addition, local bakeries will participate in an Olympic-themed bake-off to support the Relay For Life efforts. Guests will have the opportunity to sample some of the best pies, cakes, cookies and cupcakes in the Yorktown area.

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, dance and take turns walking or running around a track relay-style to raise funds to fight cancer.
Participants light hundreds of luminaria candles around the track in a ceremony to honor cancer survivors as well as friends and family members lost to the disease.
Funds are raised to support cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services in the community.
Relay For Life of Yorktown is scheduled for Friday, June 10, at Jack Devito Memorial Field in Yorktown Heights.
The mall is at 650 Lee Blvd, Yorktown Heights.
