Hope Jankunas, owner and medical director of CPH, announced the acquisition of Animal Hospital of Kent and Beekman Animal Hospital. Its first office location opened in Fishkill in 2014.

"We were looking to acquire a practice that was well established. We were incredibly fortunate to find the Carmel and Beekman hospitals, particularly since the existing team, including Dr. Feldman, agreed to stay on and work with us," said Jankunas, who graduated from vet school in 2008 and has been working in the veterinary field since 2000. "I was a veterinary receptionist, technician, and laboratory technician before graduating from vet school."

The offices are comprised of,

  • Fishkill: staffed full time with vet Alisha Selzner. Jankunas is there twice a week and Jeremy Frederick is available for acupuncture by appointment.
  • Carmel: Staffed full time with vet Rebecca Henderson. Jankunas sees patients one day a week. Vet Mark Feldman sees patients once a week and every other Saturday.
  • Beekman: Jankunas and Henderson each see patients one day a week.

The practice recently upgraded to state of the art digital radiography equipment to aid in the rapid diagnosis of sick or injured pets.

"Our top priorities are patient care and client education. We believe that pets are part of the family and we provide the compassionate care that you would expect for any family member," said Jankunas. "Our team is made up of animal lovers that truly love what they do— we take a lot of pride in the care that we provide and how we do our jobs. We use gentle handling techniques to ensure that our patients are comfortable during their exams. We spend a lot of time with the pet parents during and after the visit to answer all their questions."

CPH holds American Animal Hospital Association accreditation, a rigorous inspection process that ensures an animal hospital exceed the standards of care in medicine, surgery and pain management.

Jankunas said she got into this field because she has always loved animals and wanted to run a practice that reflected that. She's also involved with local rescue groups like StrayHELP and MidHudson Animal Aid.

"The human-animal bond is very important to me. I remember being a child and having a sick cat that the vet couldn’t fix, and feeling totally dismissed by him because the patient had an untreatable condition," she said. "My goal with my clients and patients is to be able to offer the best care possible and also be flexible to offer another course of action when the ideal plan can’t be pursued by the pet parent. I spend a lot of time with my clients to explain what’s going on with their pet and what we need to do because I want the whole family to be comfortable with the decisions that are being made."

As a certified Cat Friendly Practice, CPH has been recognized as an industry leader in providing specialized feline care in a safe and comfortable environment.
