Fdny Boat Turning Into Sleepy Hollow Restaurant

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- A 129-foot New York City Fire Department boat that performed a major role in the department’s Sept. 11 rescue efforts, was purchased earlier this month by the owners of Purdy's Farmer and Fish in North Salem to become a part of a restaurant in a waterfront development underway in Sleepy Hollow, according to lohud.com.

The John D. McKean, which played in role during the Sept. 11 rescue efforts, will become part of a new restaurant in Sleepy Hollow this July.

The new owners, Michael Kaphan and Edward Taylor, said the boat would be docked outside their new restaurant in the Hudson Harbor development slated to open by July 4, said lohud.com.

Named after John D. McKean, a fallen firefighter and marine engineer John D. McKean, the boat's crew pulled more than 200 civilians to safety on Sept. 11. Taylor, who said they will keep the boat's name, plan to sail it to its new home next week; it is currently docked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, added lohud.com.
