Federal Grants Awarded To Westchester County

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday that over $4 million in Federal Community Development Block Grant funds would be given to projects in Westchester County.

In total, $4.3 million of funds were awarded to 10 communities for 14 projects across the county after Cuomo worked with local members of Congress Nita Lowey and Eliot Engel to get a deal done.

The Fair and Equitable Housing Office decided on the awards after multiple public information meetings to explain eligibility and application process.

"I want to thank Representatives Lowey and Engel for their partnership and unwavering dedication to ensuring that these critical projects get the attention and funding they deserve," said Governor Cuomo in a statement.

The communities getting money are:

  • Bedford is getting over $400,000 to renovate a church and finance four one-bedroom units.
  • Elmsford will receive over $255,000 to improve accessibility at the Community and Senior Center.
  • Greenburgh will receive over $247,000 to install ADA-compliant sidewalks around the public housing on Secor Road.
  • Mount Kisco will get around $230,000 for a staircase and crosswalk across Preston Way and an ADA-compliant bus for seniors.
  • Ossining will receive over $295,000 for renovation of Interfaith Council for Action-owned residential structures.
  • Peekskill will get about $1.06 million for renovation of four homes and the replacement of three pump stations.
  • Port Chester is receiving about $850,000 to replace the bus and kitchen appliances for the village's Senior Community Center, and continue the village's ongoing sewer rehabilitation project.
  • Rye will get about $398,000 to improve handicap accessibility for Crawford Park.
  • Sleepy Hollow will get over $62,000 to buy a van to help transport seniors for services and events, and over $340,000 to replace old streetlights on Beekman Avenue.
  • Tarrytown will get just over $200,000 to renovate the village's Senior Center.
