The event will take place on Sunday, May 22, at 8 a.m. at Lasdon Park, which is located at 2610 Amawalk Road in Somers. The park has a Katonah postal address.
In addition to the 5K, there will an event for children, the Kid’s One-Miler, beginning at 9 a.m. Advance registration will be available from now through May 19 at noon. To receive a free T-shirt, you must register by May 6.
These are the registration fees: For the 5K Run/Walk: $30 Adults, $20 Students, 18 and under. For the Kid’s 1 Miler: $15, 12 and under. For online registration and race details, visit their website.
Proceeds will benefit local and international organizations focused on women’s health and education. It is an opportunity for families to come together to support causes that provide services and scholarships to girls and women.
“Our run/walk is a chance for families to encourage fitness and spend time together outdoors, while raising awareness about and supporting lesser known women’s causes. It’s a double dose of good, which is good for everyone,” said Running Goddess founder Bettina Sementilli. “We are proud to support charities that make a difference in the lives of women and girls, some who live locally and others who live in Kenya.”
Part of the proceeds from the event support the organization’s annual Running Goddess Scholarship, which is open to Westchester and Putnam County high school seniors, specifically athletic female students interested in majoring in the sciences.
Last year’s scholarship recipient was Mikaela DiBello from Mahopac High School. She is now a student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. where she is majoring in chemistry with a concentration in chemical biology, and is a member of the school’s Division III varsity field hockey team.
In addition to the scholarship, the event will also benefit the following charities: Katonah Education and Exchange Program, Kakenya Center for Excellence, Support Connection, Inc., Yorktown Heights.
