According to a statement from United For the Troops, a Carmel-based nonprofit that supports active United States servicemen and women, the postal workers and volunteers packed and shipped 1,000 holiday care packages from the Shrub Oak Post Office one recent Sunday.
The effort was part of United For the Troops’ Operation Defend The Holidays initiative, according to the nonprofit.
United For the Troops care packages are designed to ease the lives of military men and women overseas and typically include food, donations, goods, hard-to-come-by items and other amenities that troops would ordinarily receive while home. Often, the packages include cookies, DVDs, snacks, T-shirts and other items, according to the nonprofit.
